Nachlaot is in the heart of Jerusalem (next to Machane Yehuda – the shuk), the home of Reb Aryeh Levene ztl, one of the oldest communities outside of the Old city and home to a most diversified Jewish community where all streams of Jews live together in harmony. The shuls range from Chabad Carlebach (yes – both in one) to Chassidic Yerushalmi, with the most renowned Sefardic shul of Syrian origin in its midst as well.

Yechiel and Sharon Spira are privileged to live in the heart of this neighborhood and invite guests from all over to experience the beauty of Shabbat with them. “A Taste of Nachlaot” is an outgrowth of their Shabbat table which regularly sees dozens of family members and guests ranging from army officers to Chassidim and everything in between sharing, learning, singing, and eating together in numerous languages and from various backgrounds.

The food is as varied as the people! A typical Shabbat meal consists of a dozen salads, delicious soup with a variety of accoutrements, soufflés, tarts, kugels and other side dishes, a choice of mains and desserts. The atmosphere is truly one of Shabbat without the rush of a second shift in a hotel, with the intimacy of real people sharing their lives in Israel with you, divrei torah, zmirot and unlimited food and drinks. Takeout options are also available for those unable to personally share the experience.

The Spiras do not offer sleeping accommodations as this is not a bed-and-breakfast arrangement, but they do offer a Shabbat experience with their wonderful family.

Their home is in walking distance from many downtown Jerusalem hotels, making this unique Shabbat event a real possibility for many visitors from abroad who are interested in something other than the sterile commercial hotel atmosphere.

All ingredients are b’datz mehadrin with shmita l’chumra being observed.
